Vancouver BC: Burrard Bridge Allision

On July 30, 2010, in Incidents, by CaptRR

Photo’s earlier today via BE reader Chris Walker:

I always enjoy reading BitterEnd. Today, I was witness to an accident in False Creek where a very large sail boat ran up under the Burrard Bridge and caught her mast on the undersides of the bridge.
I posted the photos I took with my phone on my FaceBook page and I thought they might be of interest to your readers since she was registered in Tacoma.

Yours,
Chris Walker
Vancouver, BC

(Ed. note:  I think the clearance on that bridge is 82′)

Bet he couldn’t convert meters to feet fast enough.

  2. Cattledog says:

I think that is one of those new folding masts? Self deploying etc. But it appears he has the auto up shut down.

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

  3. This was moored at the Burrard Marina for a few days during the fireworks. Impressive boat with auto furling all round and an interesting raked masthead, unless you looked closely.

Would be really interested in how the fix went. Shipping of a mast like that is probably well beyon UPS’s capability even with long pants on.
